Well, I went to the movies yesterday.  Our theater had gotten 2 of the "Pre-release" copies of Star Trek and when I went to fandango to check the times I was pleasantly surprised to see Meni's movie Battle for Terra playing.  I blitzed the theater with my father for both movies.

Even though we were the only 2 people there for Battle for Terra (last showing), I have to say they did an excellent job.  In the whole movie there was only one moment when I cringed and it was due to an overly soft walk cycle.  So really, it was a cringe over nothing.  Superb work all around with believable writing, great direction, and fantastic audio.  The designs and animation were both excellent.  The RealD 3D implementation was flawless with only the standard loss of detail you get from stereoscopic movies.  Terra itself was a believable alien world which is quite difficult to pull off.  The plot was pretty solid with only a few "Eh... what?" moments, but that's to be expected.

If you work for/know someone that works for Menithings then please tell Mr. Tsirbas that I want a soundtrack.  The music wasn't overpowering, but it was very emotional.  That rates it very high in my book.

Now, Star Trek.  I have to say it was very well done.  If you don't like heavy effects driven movies, then you actually might want to only watch it once.  Otherwise, give it a shot.  Without giving any spoilers, I'm just going to say that if you want to re-jump start a franchise by going back to it's roots, but those roots are 40ish years old, then Paramount, Mr. Abrams, and their writers chose the easiest and I'd say most logical way of doing it.  My only real gripe is the overuse (abuse, really) of post processing effects, namely overglare, bloom, and lens flares.  It's almost like the VFX team (ILM, mainly) played Mass Effect and went "OMG I <3 Lens Flares!!!11onetwo21!"  Mass Effect had (barely) the right amount.  Star Trek took the number ME had and multiplied it by nine-thousand.  Badwrong!  Anyway, the movie itself was quite good.  The writing was equal parts humorous and serious.  The new "old" characters fit well delivering patented lines with ease.  There were a few character twists that we never in TOS, but I feel they were all for the better.

Anyway, yesterday was good.  Battle for Terra.  See it.  Do it now!  Star Trek.  See it!  Do it after Battle for Terra! :P

Oh, and that overly obnoxious watermark on my newest deviation... yeah, expect to see on all my things. >.<

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
